아이슬란드 빵과 케이크

아이슬란드 공항에 처음 도착해 손에 넣은 무가지에 아이슬란드의 빵과 케이크에 관한 간단한 기사가 있었다.
전혀 새로운 나라였기에 흥미진진하게.
아이슬란드 체류 중 내가 직접 찍은 사진과 감상/ 그리고 기사를 옮긴다.

Danish pastry
Danish bakers operated around the turn of the 20th century in both Reykjavik and Akureyri-a definite upshot of the 400-year Danish rule-and naturally they brought with them the eponymous pastry.
Even if what became world famous as Danish actually originates from Vienna-thus the Icelandic name 'Viennese Bread'.
 Danish are well-loved by Icelanders and even Nobel laureate Halldorlaxness gushes about them in The Fish Can Sing from 1957. The main charcter, Alfgrimur, wistfully reflects upon his choices when offered kaffi og med thvi :
¨But she did not offer me a Danish pastry : she gave me a bun instead. For myself, I would rather have chosen a Danish pastry with green sugar icing and raspberry jam ; but buns were good too."
 Bakari Sandholt on Reykjavik's Laugarvegur serves vinarbraud with almonds, pistachios, cinnamon, vanilla and apricots as fillings and maple syrup and caramel and chocolate pastes as icing. They are made with only natural ingredients and no additives. "There is nothing there that is not necessary." says Asgeir Sandholt, the third generation pastry chef at the family bakery, regarded by many as the best in town. "Our Danish pastry is baked with real butter. It takes a bit more knowledge to work with real butter, and it is more expensive, but you will taste it immediately." And indeed, their Danish cinnamon roll melts in the mouth.

레이캬비크 시내를 걷다 우연히 발견한 가게가 바로 이 기사에 나온 가게였다.
혼자임에도 이것저것 다 맛보고 싶은 마음에 주문을 하고.
세계커피소비량 상위권을 달리는 아이슬란드답게 커피맛이 정말 최고였다.
아이슬란드 있는 동안 내-내- 하루에 세네잔은 꼭 마셨다. 진한 커피에 우유 조금.
아이슬란드가 덴마크에 지배를 당한 적이 있어 그런지 데니쉬 페스트리가 많은 부분을 사용한다.
아이슬란드와 뗄레야 뗄 수없는 질 좋은 유제품-버터,치즈-를 사용한 페스트리는 정말! 맛있었다. 

이 '해야할 일' 을 쓰는게 얼마만인지
새해가 시작될 때라든가 이사갈때, 뭔가를 새로 시작할 때.
많이 썼던 기억이 나.
요새처럼 정신줄을 멀리 그린란드 남쪽에 떨구고 사는 때는 생각할 여유조차 없었지 뭐야
